Last night, a few of my friends were clowning me about the Lakers' embarrassing and unprecedented loss in the first game of their first-round playoff matchup against the New Orleans Hornets, 109-100. I think my friends knew they'd have to jump on me now 'cause this might be the only opportunity to do so before the Lakers finally dispatch the Hornets in 5 and move on to the next round. So I say to all you Kobe haters out there the same thing I said to these same friends yesterday.
Lakers in 5. We'll be just fine.
The loss yesterday was good for the Lakers. The bench has to wake the heck up. Pau has to wake the heck up-with no David West in his face, the big Spainard and Bynum, who played well yesterday but was way to crybaby-ish with the officials, should be reeking havoc in the paint. I was fine with Kobe and Fish's backcourt play, but our fourth-quarter defense . . . well, it was non-existent. To give up 109 points to one of the lowest scoring teams in the league is incredibly awful.
But we'll be just fine.
Chris Paul will get his. We already knew that. The key is to D everybody else and we'll sweep these cats before they know it. CP3 is a great player, but I don't think he's got the killer instinct nor the consistent endurance it will take to knock the Lakers off in a long series. Now that he's got the Lakers' attention, they'll wratchet it up like they always do and take the game to a level the Hornets won't be able to handle. They'll go down these playoffs as the very first team in NBA history that can turn it on whenever they feel like it. Just watch. Joshua Lane
